ENGENHOS DA CALHETA

Who are you ? 
Sociedade dos Engenhos da Calheta was founded during a large industrial development period, on the second sugar cycle, late XIXth century, beginning of the XXth century, one of the oldest sugar cane processing facility in Madeira Island. Connecting past and present, it produces high quality Rhum, carefully monitoring the fermentation and distillation processes, also sugar cane syrup obtained through steam cooking of the “garapa” (sugar cane juice). For beeing so genuine the rum that Engenho da Calheta produces is used for Poncha making and several other cocktails. On its turn the sugar cane syrup is utilized as base ingredient in Madeira honey cake and cookies cooking.
Can you tell us a few words on the brands you are presenting in Paris ? 
We are presenting in Paris the following products.
– Rhum White 50% Vol.
Sugar Cane Rhum 50% Vol. obtained through steam cooking of the “garapa” (sugar cane juice).Cristal coloured, it is Madeira’s favourite for Poncha making.
– Aguardente Velha ( Old Rhum 14 Years Old)
Sugar Cane Rhum 40% Vol. amber in colour, is a selection of the finest Rhums produced by Engenho da Calheta, aged over years on oak barrels, originating a fine flavoured and soft tasted beverage.
– Reserva Velha (Old Rhum 20 Years Old)
Sugar Cane Rhum 40% Vol. amber in colour, is a selection of the finest Rhums produced by Engenho da Calheta, aged over years on oak barrels, originating a fine and full flavoured, exquisit taste beverage.
– Rumel
It is a regional liquorous beverage, made from selected Rhum, pure sugar cane syrup and herbs tea.
– Macia 30%
